Software, Network, Internet and Hardware Requirement List

Note: These requirements are related to the HSC IT Online exam only. Additional requirements are to be complied with for conducting the course in general

  1. Win xp (32-bit) +sp3 +latest updates
    Win Vista(32-bit/64-bit)+sp2+latest updates
    Win 7(32-bit/64-bit)+latest updates

  2. The Operating System must be must be updated promptly and regularly with the latest service packs and security updates available from Microsoft Windows Update Online.

  3. Older operating systems with discontinued support such as Microsoft Windows 2000, NT4 or earlier, ME, 98, 95 are not acceptable.

  1. Microsoft Security Essentials (available for free download from Microsoft)

  2. Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0

  3. WinRAR 3.93 or later.

  4. Adobe Acrobat Reader Ver. 9 or higher.

  5. Yahoo! Messenger 11 or later.

Network and Internet Requirement List

Broadband connectivity through LAN. Two separate Internet Service Providers must be used; one throughout the year as well as for online examination, and the other as an additional stand-by available service during January to march of every year as backup in case connectivity from the main service provider fails.

  1. Speed: 2 MBps for every 20 concurrent computers being used online

  2. Contention Ratio: 1:1

  3. Internet Connectivity Availability: Throughout the year for receiving Online Windows and Security Updates

  4. Data transfer rate must be increased in proportion if additional computers are to be used.

  5. For fast internet connectivity and avoiding timeouts, use of proxy server is not recommended. All computers must be in workgroup mode and must procure internet connectivity simultaneously through internet modem/router connected directly to the switching hub.

  6. Use of Wireless Broadband connections are not recommended unless it being used as standby. Internet connectivity through dial-up modem is not allowed.

  7. Functionality of the Internet connection and its efficiency must be tested regularly to ensure proper working speeds and consistency when all computers are used for Internet related activity at the same time.

Computer Number Requirement

Number of Computers as specified by Department of Education .20 Computers for one batch of 60 students.Availability of additional number of computers is strongly recommended for emergencies during the IT online examinations in case of machine failure.In case of additional repeater/ private candidates in Std. XII, institutions must arrange for additional computers at least and for 2 months prior to the online exam, for completion of the exam in at most 4 sessions.

Computer Hardware Configuration

  1. Processor: No Restriction
  2. RAM: At least 512 MB per computer
  3. Display Monitor: No Restriction. Must support 800 x 600 resolution
  4. Network Connectivity: LAN (Ethernet) via 100 MBPS or faster Ethernet LAN cards (either add-on cards or Built-in LAN on Motherboard)
  1. Modem (Optional): ADSL or Cable as needed to suit the type of Internet Connection.
  2. Switching Hub: with sufficient number of ports to connect all computers in a single common network.
  3. Microphone: For use with a Computer
  4. UPS: Common High Power UPS for all machines is recommended. However individual UPS for every computer is acceptable.
  5. Generator: A generator or alternate source of power supply must be available during online exam that will provide power to all the computers and hardware necessary for Internet and networking. This is mandatory as per Govt. instructions.
  6. Electrical Wiring of Computer Lab: The same must have provision for Power Feed through a Generator for all computers and network/internet related hardware.
System Setup for Online Exam

  1. All Online Exam Related activities such as Data Tests, Inspections, Mock and Actual Exams to be performed with Administrator Login Only

  2. Date must be correct and set to mm/dd/yyyyy format

  3. Time must be set correctly to Local time (do not worry if it is modified due to the execution of any OLE related program).

  4. Disable Security Software During Exam Client Installation

  5. Disable Windows Update as well as Security Software Update during Actual Online exam, however the updates must be functional otherwise.
